There and Back: Cross-country 2002
This summer, my friend Gilles and I decided to drive to Montréal. We loaded my Chevy Tahoe with stuff, had my pup Kylie join us, and set off. We began our trip on June 4, leaving Los Angeles in the afternoon. We took one of the central routes, beginning with I-15 north for about 625 miles and then taking I-80 east for over 1,500 miles to the Detroit area. We crossed the border at Port Huron, taking route 402 for 70 miles, and then route 401 about 100 miles northeast to Montréal. We passed through California, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana and Michigan before passing through Ontario, Canada and then into Québec. More. . .

After staying in Montréal for a few days to meet my friends' family and friends and to see the Canadian Grand Prix, we headed south about 30 iles on autoroute 15 to I-87, then another 120 miles or so to New York, dropping Gilles in Brooklyn before I continued to my cousins' place in Freeport, Long Island.
To return, we took I-78 west for 104 miles, then I-81 and I-76 for about 100 miles to I-70 west. We took I-70 for almost 1,900 miles, then highway 89 south for about 200 miles (stopping to see the Grand Canyon). We then took I-40 west for almost 320 miles, I-15 south for about 65 miles to I-10 and home. Along the way, we stopped in Topeka, Kansas to buy some used race wheels. We also detoured and camped in Moab, Utah. We passed through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona and back to California.
The trip is now over.
